Coverage by city
Availability at one application centre is independent of another. A full calendar in one city tells you nothing about the next, which is why monitoring more than one is often the fastest route to an earlier date.

Who actually needs an appointment
Worth settling first, because it decides whether any of this applies to you. British citizens do not currently need a Schengen visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. The EU has been preparing ETIAS, an online travel authorisation for visa-exempt travellers including UK nationals, but that is not a visa and its timing should be confirmed on the official ETIAS site rather than here.
These pages are for people living in the UK who are not visa exempt — typically non-UK, non-EU nationals resident here on a student, work or family visa, holding a passport that requires one. If you are unsure, check with the consulate of your destination country before doing anything else.
Four cities, four independent calendars
This is the structural advantage UK applicants have over applicants in Ireland, and the one most often left unused. Where a country operates centres in more than one city, availability at each is generally independent. A calendar showing nothing in London tells you nothing about Manchester.
You are also usually not restricted to the centre nearest you. Checking every city that serves your destination, rather than only the convenient one, is one of the highest-yield moves available — and it is the reason Visalo monitors each city separately rather than reporting a single national view.
Why UK slots vanish so quickly
The UK hosts a large population of non-UK, non-EU nationals who all draw on the same limited pool of appointments, and demand concentrates heavily on London. Centre capacity is effectively fixed and does not flex much during peak periods.
On top of that, many centres release slots in timed batches rather than continuously, and cancellations return to the pool without warning. Some applicants already run monitoring tools, which compresses the window further for everyone else. A slot can appear and be gone inside a minute.
